First we see a detail of the face from the original and the finished product. Notice the haphazard colorization originally applied around the lips and on the hat button. The subject's eyes were blue, but when these photographs were taken by the Marine Corps and colorized it was done for thousands of young men at once. In that type of assembly line production the picture couldn't have the detail and attention applied to it that your family's Heritage Portraiture deserves.

Fading, discoloration, poor hand tinting, grain, and mild surface damage made this restoration project challenging and fulfilling. Not only did we adjust the contrast and correct for the yellowing, but the print also was re-colored to more accurately and beautifully show his "Dress Blues". The client also wanted the picture to appear more like a painting than a photograph, so the harsh grain of the original was removed over the entire subject.
